International Women’s Day: Not just a day to celebrate – it’s a day to challenge bias!
International Women’s Day is celebrated in many countries around the world and yesterday we celebrated the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women.
Yesterday, the MME team attended the Northern Beaches Council International Women’s Day who hosted a breakfast at the Manly Golf Club. Melinda Gainsford -Taylor AM was chosen as guest speaker, she was the perfect fit, given her encouragement for women to break gender bias and push the stereotypical boundaries. Her stories of overcoming adversity, succeeding in a male dominated sport and life after sport were motivational and inspirational.
This year’s theme is to push for change, “a press for progress” – a global call to action for leaders to think and act in a gender inclusive manner. The gender parity is not a new concept and in Australia we have been seeing some change such as industries reducing gender pay gaps, along with increases of female to male ratios in the workforce. However, the proportion of female CEOs across Australia is very low, at just 2% – We still have work to do!!
The “press for progress” values are close to the heart for us here at MME and our two female founders are prime examples of successful women in the workforce. As a recruitment provider, we are also able to educate employers and are committed to bridging the gender gap with our own hiring activities. #pressforprogress
